Rec: (Do also read the sequel that's linked in the related works!) I enjoy this a lot for the way the PTSD is handled here, and the way it interacts with having a kid, and the way Brad approaches the whole thing, being a Marine himself. I also love how the fic (and especially the sequel) deals with DADT and with how that affects living as a queer person in the military. Highly recommended! You don't need to know the fandom to enjoy it - I certainly don't!

Rec: I love both of these characters so much, wow. Johnny is fantastic! So self-assured, but not in an obnoxious way at all, and the Devil getting kind of in over his head but more than willing to roll with it! I really ship them which is kind of a shame given it's a yuletide microfandom and it's this particular author's characterisation of them that I love. XD Don't need to know canon, and also canon is a folk song so accessible and consumable within about two minutes. XD

Rec: This is so very much outside of my normal reading preferences, and I've already forgotten again whose rec led me here this time (because it certainly isn't the first time this fic has crossed my field of view), but wow. I am so glad I gave it a chance. It's hard to describe how much I love this fic. I read it, and then read the comments, and then immediately read it again, all in one afternoon. It's a family saga more than anything, really, but most of all I just love how real everyone's emotions feel, how their actions and responses and interactions all made so much very grounded sense to me, and how everyone were very distinct, complex people rather than props for the main pairing. I love that Ginny didn't get villainized despite the fic premise, I love that everyone gets to have a lot of feelings about it but they also process them, and most of all I love that Luna still stays Luna despite being written in a relationship, which unfortunately all too often renders her completely unrecognisable to me. But this, this is good. Yes. <333 I think this is more enjoyable if you have some background knowledge of the characters and the world, but ultimately I think they're fleshed out enough in the fic that it's enjoyable even without anything but the most peripheral of canon knowledge (given that it's Harry Potter and I imagine it would be hard to avoid knowing at least something).

THIS FIC IS EVERYTHING I HAVE EVERY WANTED FROM HUMAN-SHAPED BUT, IMPORTANTLY, NOT ACTUALLY HUMAN ANGELS. AAAAAAH FUCK YES. U think this is readable and enjoyable without canon knowledge - they're angels/demons, you get the picture - but more fun with canon background!

I think so? It assumes you know the characters so Hamid's reaction to small signs from Zolf might seem odd if you don't know Zolf is a bit of an old school stoic who isn't showy about his emotions.
