It is absolutely pouring rain this morning. I did not miss this part of spring.

But after a few weeks of horrific burnout, I'm actually feeling a bit of writing inspiration again, which is nice! I don't know if I'll have anything ready to share this week, but I'm not just staring blankly at word documents trying to make something, anything work. Tea, sleep, and books are going a long way.

(Also cats jumping into my lap every time I try to use the laptop, which isn't exactly helping with the writing but is helping with the burnout. The kittens say no writing, only petting.)

So I had been hoping to do more things this past week. I’d hoped to do posts, to fic, to watch stuff (I was planning on watching Clown In A Cornfield again finally) but everything went wrong.

I had been low energy at the start of the week and that got worse, not helped by the loud noises from the drilling outside, which got steadily worse until Friday morning when I was so bad I had a terrible headache even after it ended.

Then. My stomach felt a bit funny. I think it started Thursday but it got worse over Friday, but I put it down to the headache.

Then Saturday morning hit and I was consumed by a fever. I spent the entire day in bed, in a dizzy haze with no voice or anything. It meant I couldn’t do anything of what I planned, nor could I do dnd on Sunday. (Even though it had eased up some I was still incredibly hazy and out of it at times).

TodayI finally felt better voice wise, so of course mum decides to be bitchy. I dunno why she yelled at me because she didn’t get things, or because she didn’t try something on that she saw when we got her meds (which she didn’t even tell me at the time) but ugh. It just irked me even more.

Then I had my stupid call which ugh. It’s still not with the usual guy and was half an hour later, both which would have annoyed me and made me chase up on if I wasn’t feeling rough still. (I had no desire to waste my voice on that). But ugh.

(Plus side though being sick has meant mums friend didn’t come today but she will be next week which ughhhhh)

***

Oh the plus side Pokopia was released a few days ago yay! If got it on digital which feels a good decision cause I feel this is gonna be a big time sink. But ahh it’s so cute! I was sold on it cause it looked like animal crossing meets Pokémon but it’s so much more than that. Though it is very similar. The world is just so… big. I got to the second area today (if I’d not been sick I’d have done it sooner) and it’s a whole other huge area.

But ahh I’ve seen some of my favs already, there’s scyther, goomy and Bulbasaur, plus so many others (I even found a suicune!) and ahh it’s just so cute, I love all the Pokémon and all the things you can find. I’ll post more thoughts sometime.

And I also popped into a charity shop and got a dvds of contact and day of the triffids.

Made blackberry and apple cake and mint tea tonight, for an end-of-week treat. I forgot how nice it is sometimes to feel like a little Redwall mouse after a long tiring day.

(I'd post pictures, but the lighting in my kitchen is terrible, so you'll just have to trust me when I say I burned the cake a little bit but it was still delicious.)

It's too early to get excited about spring...but it's warm enough I didn't need more than a raincoat this morning, and there was fog on the river, and it's going to be nice enough this afternoon that I can open up the apartment windows and air things out a little. Maybe I'll actually cook something nice tonight and sit out on the porch with dinner.

(I've seen enough from the kittens that I do NOT trust them on the porch [balcony, fenced off] without me right there to grab them. I think they can come sit out there with me if they want, though.)

  1. In one of the books I'm reading right now, they frequently make references to another researcher by the name of "Fruhstuck." On a hunch, I looked it up and saw that her name is actually "Frühstück," with umlauts over the u's, which is German for "breakfast." I suppose this is an occupational surname that you wind up with if your ancestors worked at Waffle Haus.
  2. In the past I've mentioned Cherry Bullet's "Hands Up", which uses "Für Elise" as part of the song. Today I discovered Twice Dahyun's "Chess," which uses the same song even more directly. Enjoy!
  3. The fact that I didn't get this posted during the Olympics shows how off-task I've been recently, but I've been doing better for the past couple of days, so you get the post now. This year's Games featured an odd intersection of two of my interests: The Olympics and intellectual property law. Several figure skaters had trouble getting clearance to use the music they wanted for their routines. Intellectual property law is a mess anyway, but once you're crossing pretty much every border on earth and involving major international organizations like the IOC and numerous of the world's largest broadcasters and on top of that there's a lot of money on the line, things just get even more bonkers.

Hope you're all doing well!

So I’m back home after today’s trip.

I ended up leaving at 9:30 which felt early enough since most stores in Birmingham didn’t open up until 11. The train was really busy which surprised me. It was standing room only by the second stop which was crazy. (I just read some of the Doctor Who chronicles I had).

In Birmingham I went to the Forbidden Planet by the station. Mum hoped they’d have the Hei Hei bag she’s been wanting (so I could get pics for her) but alas no. They did have some Star Wars graphic novels on offer and I got 3 - Star Wars Quests Of The Force, Bounty Hunters - Bedlam On Bestine and Obi-Wan - A Jedi’s Pirpose. They all sound pretty good (even though I’ve not read any of the other bounty hunters or recent Star Wars issues) and quite a bargain for under £10 (they’re usually more than that each).

Then I went to the entertainer which was my main stop and I built the little bantha there! He’s so cute but you’ll see him later. I also got to see one smart play set in action, more on that later.

I went in hmv just to look around. I completely forgot if there was anything to look for. I also went in m and s and got mroe red velvet hot cross buns (oop).

I went in the Lego store to check out the new sets and they had smart play stuff (again more on that later). They also had the Pokémon sets on display. My fav is still the Eevee, the big set is impressive but over £500 is crazy.

I had a quick wander around, though Primark, Smiths and cex were a bust. (Again where are the Stranger Things stickers?) from the other Forbidden Planet I got some comics, 2 exquisite Corpses issues (Ineed to read the ones I got when I went to the hospital oop), the new Smile comic and two black series sets: master Vernestra from The Acolyte and Dagan Gera and a cool BX droid from Jedi Survivor (just look at them!). (Which I need to go back on sometime I got distracted from it. I’ve not even seen him yet in game but he’s hot and his fit is cool.

Tk I got another Christie book but almost didn’t cause it’s Seven Dials, one of the ones I’ve read but the cover is cool.

I did go back to Lego before getting the train and it’s here I’m gonna say my thoughts on the smart brick.

I mostly saw interaction with two things, the X-Wing and Vader’s TIE. I did like the enguine sounds they made and the blaster fire when you pressed the button/switch (respectively) and the R2 noise was cool. The downside is, of course, the ‘voices’ for Luke which sounded terrible and robotic. I alway wish we’d got to hear other things, Lego had the throne room duel and the turret from the fighters, but didn’t show how the brick sounded when interacting them. I guess we’ll see when reviewers do it. (I still say the cantina set looks pretty nice.)

So it does seem the brick is much better for effects then anything else. But it is an expensive gimmick and the buttons/switches/tiles are all quite garish in bright red. The main issue is the price. The smart brick x-wing has a lot of stuff to it, but it’s still £20 more than the new republic x-wing from the mandalorian and Grogu which looks cooler and more complete. So yeah I’m waiting on reviews to have the full other sounds, but I’m not gonna get smart play stuff unless there’s a discount.

I was all peopled out so decided to come home instead of seeing Hoppers (it was also cause of the train and showing times being pretty bad). It’s no bother really I know they’ll be plenty of time to see it. So I just read some Heated Rivalry, then nommed sushi when I got home and watched traitors ireland.

Tonight I’m gonna watch the pottery throw down, mock the week and then… I dunno. I guess it depends on mood and tiredness. (Maybe fic or something)

But I end on this!

So it’s already the last day of February what the fuck? Where has the time gone?

I’ve still neither done, nor read the stuff I love posts (oops) I had thought to yesterday but time kinda got away for me. However I bring it up cause the one I did do (about standalone films) made me wanna watch some of them.

The first, which I disc switch to a few days back (I can’t recall when exactly) was Dungeons And Dragons Honour Among Thieves, which I watched not long after the last post.

And yes, I can confirm it’s still a top tier movie. It’s just so fun and funny and it looks incredible (so much of the effects are practical) and Xenk is so handsome. Again it has made me sad there’s not a follow up or anything, but then again it works so well on its own (though I would love to see Xenk some more,

i also found out that the music is done by the same guy that did the music for The War Between The Land And The Sea (and Wallace And Gromit Vengeance Most Fowl!)

(Other films I wanna rewatch soon are Event Horizon, Clown In The Cornfield, Wildhood and Spree)

I woke early Friday which was annoying (especially as the loud noises started soon after) but I was glad to hear the news that the Greens won the by election! Labour had acted like it was a two horse race between them and reform and yet both were beaten (and sizeably too!) of course it looks like labour leadership aren’t going to learn anything from this defeat (they’re already sending out more smears and comminting to continuing being awful) but I do feel hope again anyway.

Friday was also Pokémon day which is the 30th anniversary of Pokémon (which makes me feel ancient). I did fish out a Pokémon tee to wear (with ghost Pokémon) and I finally watched an episode of Pokémon concierge which is really cute so far! I love the art style to it and I hope to watch more soon.

There was a new Poke on Presents, which if anyone hasn’t seen it tends to be a mix of stuff we know, coming events, stuff for the mobile games and then the genuinely good stuff at the end. One cute thing was a Pokémon music player which is shaped like a lil game boy! The downside? The music is on cartridges (like game boy games) and there’s… 47 of them. What??

Of the new announcements Gale Of Darkness is being added to the GameCube player, which is great cause I never played it and always wanted to (it was rare and so prices went insane). There was also more info on Pokopia, with a dj rotom that plays music, a reveal of electricity to power things and a few more Pokémon shown. The fact that it has electricity makes me really curious what sort of contraptions could be made. So much of what was shown was early game I’d not even considered ti a possibility.

Lastly! The new Pokémon games are called Winds And Waves and it looks gorgeous! It’s so beautiful and really shows off the power of the switch 2. It did show off the new starters which look cute! I’m torn between the Fire and Water ones. It’s not coming out till next year which is a long way off but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

In the night Resident Evil Requiem came, though I didn’t go on it until after The Last Leg (so 11). I only did the first section with Grace but damn. It really looks so incredible on the switch 2. I played for about an hour, doing her opening section and the first cut scene of Leon’s (ahhh he looks so hot!) I do have minor thoughts (under the cut just in case but it super spoilery?)

Ihave decided I’m gonna try and go tomorrow to Birmingham. I’m thinking of just wandering around (including checking TK for more Agatha books though I doubt it), look at the Lego Pokémon in the Lego store and pop in a few other places.i have considered doing a Birmingham trip before, stopping off at the cinema on the way back, so this might be it.

Alas there’s not much showing at the cinema. Most of the screenings are for Wuthering Heights (I’m not fussed about but I’ve heard bad things), Scream (I wasn’t going to see but I’ve heard equally bad things), an Elvis concert thing (eh)and Hoppers (for a preview weekend. Hoppers is the one I’ll probably see but it depends how I feel and if things line up. (goat is an alternate possibility but there’s fewer showings). Part of me does wanna go for a rewatch of Cold Storage but I doubt I will, at least this time.

If I don’t see hoppers, well it’ll be on for weeks anyway (I might see it with The Bride in a few weeks.

Now I’m gonna have noms, try and do fall guys event thing and then… maybe fic, maybe watch Heated Rivalry. (I’m not sure I’ll go on Requiem but we’ll see)

It's Friday!!

...I am so tired. Two days off work (for a specific project) did not make me less tired. It's going to be another "go pick up coffee from the fun campus coffee shop just to make it through the afternoon" day.

But it's Friday! And the weather is supposed to be lovely this afternoon, so I'll take it.

Hopefully tonight/this weekend I'll have a chance to work a little more on my WIPs. I have something like 2k of Forsaken Road handwritten in a notebook, and a few different investigation scenes from broken beaten damned I need to bounce around a little more until they shake out into some proper clues. (And maybe polish up a couple of the OCs for that fic. One of them is pretty well-developed, but he only has one scene, and the others could use some work.)

...If I don't end up working part of the weekend, because that just became a possibility. Academia!

This is gonna be one of those posts of two halves.

The bad.

Tuesday was the day to submit the uni anssesment and just.. ugh. First my focus has been blah at the best of times (especially cause of blankness last week but also? The questions were a bit bleh. (One needed to use software, which cut out part of the info inexplicably, another was about something I’m so opposed to on principle I couldn’t see it any other way (deep sea mining). I just ended up setting myself a time and saying fuck it when I reached it (cause I knew asking for an extension really wouldn’t help)

Off course that’s messed up with my mindset an energy, I’ve felt so exhausted. And going out yesterday added to that tiredness. (More on that later

And also it hasn’t helped there’s been loud machinery noises outside. The council is doing ‘something’ to the square outside but they haven’t bothered telling anyone what the plans actually are. It’s been going on for a few weeks now and there’s not much difference but there has been drilling and other loud noises which haven’t helped my head. (Increasing headaches)

All that just triggered my mood to return to being low again which… blah. I had been hoping to distract myself more but… yeah focus has been there.

**

The good.

Tuesday was a stint at the library so at least that was a break from the noise. I did some reading, one chapter of Heated Rivalry, finally reading the Stranger Things Dungeons And Dragons graphic novel (I loved it shown Dustin joining the guys) and started Hawkins Horrors, which is pretty good so far too.

Yesterday was a trip to pick up mums meds, which thankfully was a nice day. I wasn’t going with wnything in mind (bar looking for magazines) but we got stuff. So here’s what I ended up getting.

TK Maxx: A Classic Science Fiction collection book, with a bunch of short stories in it, a Star Wars doorables (it had Grogu), a comic relief Winnie the Pooh tote bag, a ball with a buildable flower (I think it’s lavender?). The main find though was two hardback Agatha Christie books, with the fancy covers- Curtain and Persil At End House. It was funny cause before I spotted them I had thought it would be nice to see some of her stuff and bam!
Argos: Star Wars Doorables Episode I set (which was cool)
Sainsburys: Magazines - Lego Star Wars, 2 Lego Minecraft (regular and ultimate), the doctor Who chronicles 1984 (which I didn’t expect to see but needed), the new Fantastic 4 comic, a Pokémon annnual, and a lil Lego hamster
Also: Ponyta Funko, Pokémon book

I also saw some cute lil Guinea pigs at pets at home which were so adorable.plus we went in M and S and saw they had Red Velvet hot cross buns so we got them to try. I thought they were nice but expensive, but the filling is kinda.. sus )(I’ll be real it looks like cum, especially when it oozes out)

I had been considering getting Resident Evil Requiem for the switch 2 but I was talking myself out of it (I was gonna get it as a download but the price) and then I saw Amazon had it was £10 off so…oop. Hopefully I can do some of it and not lose focus.

Tomorrow is Pokémon day so I’m hoping something cool is shown off during the Pokémon presents. Again I think it’s odd leaf green/fire red were already announced (I’m resisting getting them cause of resident evil and Pokopia coming) so it makes me curious what it’ll be since it’s a long one.

I had an email today saying the entertainer is doing a make and take Lego Bantha on Saturday so I considered going to the cinema for it… but the same email said that Sunday has it too with some stores doing a smart play demonstration. That’s not go na be in town with the cinema (annoyingly) but one of the places is Birmingham so… I dunno. I’m debating if going then might be better to see it in action for myself (but of course Birmingham is busier plus Sunday so I dunno)

For those that don’t know smart play is the new Lego thing with a special brick that makes sounds when interacting with things. What I’ve seen of it sounds… terrible and the sets for it are expensive (plus some look plain awful) so I don’t think a demonstration will convince me otherwise. But at least seeing it in front of me will prove I’m right to think that. (Or maybe prove they’re not as bad).

But I dunno we’ll see how my mood is and what the weathers like. I might just say fuck it and just sgo Saturday, see a film and then come back and flop.

(I do also wanna do the febuary stuff I love posts which I’ve failed on, I’ve not even looked at others poses either😭)
