Snowflake Challenge: A warmly light quaint street of shops at night with heavy snow falling.

In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

My One True Crossover pairing is Rumple from Once Upon a Time and Rowena from Supernatural, so any kind of fic or art for them would be great.

I still love the idea of an iZombie fic where Liv is on romance writer brain right after solving the Zombie High murder case, starts writing Zombie High slash fiction and Ravi has to read it.

Anything post-S2 of The Wilds, which was cancelled way before its time.

CAT icons.

Anything Sayid/Desmond from Lost.

Anything at all from Dark, From, School Spirits or Yellowjackets.

Speaking of, even just having people who know Dark or From and who I can ramble at about them would be great. It's hard to vent about how I've written myself into a corner while trying to rescue Mikkel from 1986 when no one knows the whole complexities of that family tree.

Snowflake Challenge: A mug of coffee or hot chocolate with a snowflake shaped gingerbread cookie perched on the rim sits nestled amidst a softly bunched blanket. A few dried orange slices sit next to it.

Challenge #7: LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

1.) I am so good at making cheesecake. Cheesecake is finicky and I can make it turn out pretty much every single time. Granted, I have a lot of easy recipes (King Arthur Baking's chocolate cheesecake is my favorite and the one I usually default to), but I'm still proud of it.

2.) I can give cats medication! Pills, liquids, eye drops, ear drops, gel, you name it, I have given it to a cat that wanted to maul me about it. Which I think is a pretty impressive skillset for someone who is not remotely in a veterinary field and has no training. I had my cat Prowl for ten years, and she needed lots of meds for five of those years; she was also semi-feral, not particularly food motivated, opposed to getting meds in any form, and an automatic sedation at the vet for everybody's safety. So the fact that I reliably got meds into her at home by myself for five years is worth celebrating, I think.

3.) I write good :D Sure, some of it is a matter of personal taste and most of what I write is tailored to me specifically, but still, I think my writing's pretty good! And maybe more on the topic of this post, I can always come up with something to write. I have half a dozen ideas living in my head at any given time, and I think that's fantastic.

Year long meme

So as promised/threatened in the last post here’s the first of a few posts intended over the next few days (how much will be done will depend on how distracted I get and the Animal Crossing update is live so…). (And I need to reply to comments on old posts too)

I saw [profile] yarnofaridne post this year long meme which is from [personal profile] changeling72 here. So here’s me answering the January ones so far.

1. What are you most looking forward to in 2026?

I’m sure I’m missing things but these are the first that come to mind,

Films: Cold Storage, The Mandalorian And Grogu, The Odyssey
Games: Pokémon Pokopia, Hyrule Warriors (it came out last year I know but I’ve not got it yet), Resident Evil
Gigs: 5 Seconds Of Summer, Waterparks (when I order it)
Tv: Seven Dials, Ahsoka (assuming season 2 is out this year)

Also the new Doctor Who Collection (season 21) is coming in a few months. And there’s the standard stuff (free comic book day, Halloween).

2. What are you least looking forward to in 2026?

I’m waiting on hospital appointments for scans which I’m not a fan of. Hopefully it’ll just be a one off thing but the waiting and prospect of being in there all day is stressful.

3. What are your holiday/vacation plans for 2026?

I don’t have any planned and likely won’t have any. I’ve not had a vacation of any kind in so long.

4. Do you believe in reincarnation? If so, will you come back as another person, or another animal entirely?

Ohh interesting question. I’m not sure, maybe? It’s an interesting concept and I think it is possible but I’m not sure about it. I dunno if I’d want to come back as a person (then again would it be a choice?) I’d probably prefer to be some sort of animal.

5. Do you enjoy watching or participating in sport? If so, what sporting event are you most looking forward to in 2026?

Oh no I’m not a sportsball person. I definitely don’t participate, I always hated PE at school. The only time I watch any is when the Olympics and Paralympics is on. Other than that the closest I’m gonna get is Heated Rivalry and I don’t think I’ll learn much about ice hockey.

6. What colour do you think most suits you? Does you partner/family/friends agree?

Purple is my fav colour but it’s not often that there’s much in purple so most of my clothes are black. I wish I had more purple or colourful stuff. One of my fav recent clothing purchases was a stranger things sweater in bright red and that’s nice and cosy and bright.

7. What are your worst and best traits?

I’m not sure what my best are. I try and be caring and kind, I can be creative.

Worst, having bad focus, indecisiveness, shyness, I can get prone to anger or frustration. How I look and sound.

8. Whom do you take after most - your mother or father?

That’s hard to answer since I have no reference for my father.

9. Do you have any siblings? If yes, are you close to them?

I have at least one half brother, but other than that I dunno. Maybe I have a lot more of them but who knows?I sure don’t.

10. Tell us about your earliest memory.

Mum went out to do something and I was left with my grandparents. I, however wanted to go with her. Somehow I got out of the house and was found by someone and taken to the police, but I was told not to talk to strangers and so didn’t say anything. (Obviously I ended up back home but that’s the extent of my memory of it)

11. Whom do you miss the most (for whatever reason they are absent from your life)?

My nan, she was the member of the family I was closest to. It hurt so much that her last years were spent in a care home due to developing Alzheimer's. That’s a fate I don’t wish on anyone, either having it yourself or seeing someone you love suffer from it. I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore but I miss her.

I also miss other people that have left but most of them turned out to be toxic and awful to various degrees. My brain, of course, does fixate on them at times which… sucks.

12. Do you have a passport? If so, when did you last use it and where did you go?

I do but it’s probably out of date. I think the last time I used one for travel was to Cyprus but I could be wrong.

13. If a black cat crosses your path, do you consider it lucky or unlucky?

Lucky! Cats are always good and friends🖤

14. What was the most recent movie you saw at the cinema? Do you recommend it?

Anaconda, thoughts here, but yea would recommend it.

I’ll probably do these in batches (instead of daily) but not this many, but who knows?

So there’s gonna be a few posts in coming over the next days, but this is mostly a standalone one.

First things over the last few days since the last update. I’ve had an odd bit of luck because I’ve won two competitions! One was an SFX one on twitter, winning a film called The House With Laughing Windows. I know nothing about this film so did it on a whim (apparently it’s an Italian Giallo film, I’ve only ever saw one of those) so I’m curious! I also won an Anaconda goody bag from the cinema I go to (on insta) so that’s pretty cool! Hopefully both will come soon.

The week has been mostly spent inside, because the weather has been too bad to go out (mum wouldn’t let me go with her to walk Naryu and then a few days she wouldn’t go herself) but thankfully rain has washed the snow away (and not become ice).

Being inside has meant I’ve been mostly Lego building. I got the Lego Creel House and it has been a big project (22 Lego bags, though the last three were for the car and the van). It is an impressive set, it’s got five main rooms (plus an attic) and it has a pretty cool split apart function. I can’t help but wonder if it was designed for season 4 and midway through they were like ‘make everyone in their season 5 fits’. I’ll be taking some more pics tomorrow and posting on insta then so stay tuned.

Also! Heated Rivalry came out Saturday. I only watched the first ep (cause mood and focus was so off this weekend) but it was really good and I see the appeal because some, Shane and Ilya just have instant chemistry and I already wanna see more of them. (I feel I’ll learn nothing about hockey but they sure do like blowing each other)

Today I went to town to see Anaconda. I had hoped to see it last week but the ice and fall stopped that, then I won the comp so I felt I had to (I was gonna try regardless) and it seems this is the last week for it. But first!

I had hoped to get some sale things in town but alas I had no luck. It’s sad that the Primark stranger things section is much reduced (it was two full walls, not there’s just… four tees). I might look on the site and do a click and collect order. Also there are NO stranger things stickers anywhere, not in Smiths, Tesco, the co-op or spar. (Please if anyone spots them let me know I’ve not seen them since getting the album)

So what I was intending to get was… not around. But I did go into a clearance store. I was gonna see if they had a switch game I saw when I looked last time but alas it wasn’t there. What was there was a Lego set, Boba Fett’s throne room that was half price and discontinued about a year ago. So I got it. Mostly cause it included Fennec Shand who’s a total badass. So ooop now I have something else to build

(And a discontinued Animal Crossing set I ordered in the sale came when I was out so I have that too, oop)

I did get some stranger things blind boxes cause that’s all I saw and ahh Steve was in one. My boy!

Before the film there was some trailers and two stood out. I’d seen a Project Hail Mary one before and was kinda curious but this new one Ahs definitely made me wanna see it cause there’s an alien friend! Then there was Cold Storage which I was already sold on (especially cause it has Joe Kerry playing a loser) but I wasn’t sure if we’d get a release, but a few days ago the cinema confirmed it so ahhh! It’s coming out next month and I’m totally seeing it.

Usually I do try and see two films when I go to the cinema but the only ones I was maybe curious about were much too long (and would’ve clashed with Anaconda as a result) so I just saw it. Thoughts under the cut.

Next cinema trips should be Saturday (for The Boy And The Heron and Labyrinth), next z Friday (for Return to Silent Hill), then the following Friday (for something called Another World, with a live q and a with the director which sounds pretty cool).

Now I’m gonna rest, maybe fic and watch Good Ship Murder (so stay tuned for more posts tomorrow oop)

Also! The Animal Crossing update is this week! I’ve not been on my island in forever so I’ll need to find the game again (I did a few weeks back but have forgotten the safe place I put it😭) I’m excite for the Zelda stuff.

Update: Cincinnati chili

Today I finally had sufficient time around lunchtime to try Cincinnati chili. I fixed it according to the article on "How to Eat Cincinnati Chili Like a Local" and then sat down to eat it. I didn't like the first bite. So I ate some more, hoping it would get better with further exposure. By the time I had eaten half of the serving, I gave up and decided I just didn't like it. So I disposed of it, brushed my teeth, then brushed my teeth again because I could still taste it in my mouth. I wish I liked it, because the concept sounded interesting, but I don't.

I think I might try eating "regular" chili on spaghetti, because it wasn't the "on spaghetti" part that I disliked, but in the meantime I'm over here eating peppermints one after another to try to clear the taste in my mouth. (I'm really not trying to be overly dramatic here. It's just very rare that I try something and don't like it, so I'm having trouble coping with it.)

Top 10 Challenge. The category(ies) you choose are up to you. You can give top 10 Fics you read last year, the top 10 songs to create to, the to 10 guest stars on your favorite show, top 10 characters in your favorite book series, top 10... well, you get the idea.

So, I'm in the UK, and last week two of the UK soap operas did a big crossover episode, with viewers getting the chance to vote for one particular scene to be included. So this has inspired me to think, which characters in my favourite fandoms would I want to have a scene together? Here are my top 10 crossover combinations. (If I've ever tackled these, which I have for some of them, I'm also linking the fic.

1: Rumple (Once Upon a Time) and Rowena Macleod (Supernatural)

Because ever since I first saw Rowena, I thought she and Rumple would have a lot of chemistry if they ever met and she is his true soulmate (Belle who?)

2: Mikkel Nielsen (Dark) and Jacob Landry (The Way Home)

Two characters who have found themselves trapped years in the past, they totally need to set up their own support group.

3: Daniel Faraday (Lost) and Walter Bishop (Fringe)

I might have put these two brilliant scientific minds together anyway, but when I made the connection that the psychiatric ward Walter was on happened to be in the same town where Daniel was living before he was recruited to the freighter, what could have made more sense than them having met at St Claire's?

https://archiveofourown.org/works/1039238

4: Olivia Dunham (Fringe) and Kate Austen (Lost)

Kate killed her abusive "stepfather" after finding out he was her biological father. Olivia shot hers, but he escaped. If Kate crossed Olivia's path, could Olivia bring herself to turn her in?

https://archiveofourown.org/works/44889379

5. Jack Shephard (Lost) and Boyd Stevens (From)

Two leaders, two men determined to fix things, these two have had similar struggles. (And the trope of Jack mistaking Boyd for Michael could also have potential.)

6. Jack Shephard (Lost) and August Booth (Once Upon a Time)

This one started out for a crossover exchange where August summoned Jack, a friend he made travelling in Phuket, to try and help break the curse. As I was writing it, I realised these two could bond over trying to meet the expectations of their fathers. (And hey, someone had to fix Stranger in a Strange Land, right?)

https://archiveofourown.org/works/685943

7. Charlie Pace (Lost) and John Mitchell (Being Human UK)

Both have gone through cold turkey, both have been the subject of a death prophecy. They need to bond.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/1250551

8. Lottie Matthews (Yellowjackets) and John Locke (Lost)

Both feeling a connection with the wilderness/jungle, both not wanting to leave - these two have common ground.

9. Dani Acosta (From) and Ana Lucia Cortez (Lost)

Both police officers who make rash decisions in the moment, both end up isolated in the community following an incident of shooting an innocent party believing them to be a villain. Acosta IS Ana Lucia 2:0.

10: Bobby Singer (Supernatural) and Donna Raines (From)

Before becoming trapped in the town, Donna was supposedly on a hunting trip. Ever since seeing some joking somewhere online that it was in fact demon hunting, I've kind of liked the idea of putting her with Bobby.

2025 movies!

So when I was doing my top five cinema films of 2024 I had the issue that I saw… 5 films in 2024 (and one was the rerelease of Episode I). With 2025 I have the opposite problem, because in 2025 I saw 31. I had intended to make my top films but it was so hard to order them. (I was just gonna do a ‘here’s my ten films of last year with no order’ but it was hard to settle on the last few.)

A few days ago I saw [personal profile] rhoda_rants post about the films they saw last year so here I am doing mine. Note it’s unwieldy (cause 31! But I’m intending to do a small paragraph on each then add two key things: would I rec it and will I watch again. (For more in depth thoughts, look through the film thoughts tag)

(Also I may add a few non cinema films at the end too)

The order of this is simply in the order I saw them.

(And oop this has taken days to do cause my focus has been so off😭)

Hoo boy that took much longer than expected (I think I started this Friday, or maybe Thursday and it’s Monday now). Hopefully I’m able to see my first films of the year this week but we’ll see!

(Stay tuned for a general post, snowflake catch up and maybe a year long meme thing)

Snowflake Challenge 2026: Prompt 6

Challenge #6: Top 10 Challenge

Picking my favorite 10 of anything is hard! That list changes every time I find something new, and I'm never good at filtering it down. (This happens every time I mention reading as a hobby and a new coworker asks about my favorite book, too. Well, right now it's the really fun new one I just read, and also the new-to-me one I read last week, but what about all the ones I could re-read any time and still love...) So instead, here's ten random selections from my very long list of Ace Attorney Fic I Really Like. Some of these I've probably recced before, and a lot of them are explicit rarepair fic.

Like A Record, Baby: Klavier/Daryan PWP from the kink meme. I like basically everything this author ever did (their Klavdar first time fic is amazing), but this one in particular is a lot of fun. Ambidextrous Daryan showing off in the bedroom. (Or, well, the kitchen, technically, but you get the point.)

on the perils of babygays and underage drinking: Anybody who's been following my Dreamwidth knows how much I love genderbent lesbian Klavier/Daryan, and this is an excellent version of it. 10/10 disastrous teenage pining.

Leaves from the Vine: Mia Fey-focused Ace Attorney/Pokemon crossover in which Charley the office plant is a Bulbasaur that she brought with her from Kurain Village. This one made me actually cry. Absolutely gorgeous, very nicely meshes the two canons together.

Turnabout Skeleton: Larry Butz is arrested for allegedly murdering a man with a twelve-foot artisanal injection-molded plastic skeleton. Edgeworth's life gets weirder from there. Absolutely hysterical casefic, mostly gen unless you want to read subtext into things. Some of the best pun names I've ever seen in Ace Attorney fic, and that is saying something.

Like A Sinner Before: Lana/Mia PWP where they have sex on a motorcycle. It's fantastic. I'm a big fan of all Mia stuff that incorporates her motorcycle from the early concept art into canon, and this is both extremely hot and my favorite characterization for both of them.

Mediation: Klavier/Daryan/Apollo kinky PWP (and I strongly recommend the sequel linked from the attached series, too). I don't usually go for sub!Daryan, but this one is fun, hot, and about my OT3, so I'm sold!

The Music Our Collisions Make: Franziska/Ema PWP, one of the fics that originally convinced me to give the pairing a shot. Ema's voice is fantastic here (both of them are, but it's from her POV) and it's exactly the kind of messy it's-complicated situationship I love for them.

#DaryanCrescendIsOverParty: Social media fandom reacts to Turnabout Serenade and Daryan's arrest. Hilariously accurate fandom meltdown, 10/10 read if you enjoy social media fic and/or fandom drama with zero stakes (because the drama is not real). #anyway stan Jangly Justice

we go together or we don't: And speaking of Jangly Justice, the Daryan/Apollo AA5-bad-end AU that's mostly porn but also has the fantastic subthread of Daryan being obsessed with this one random indie musician as a teen, only to find out, well, about that Justice guy that sent you to jail... Also extremely fun.

Anyway, Here's Guilty Love: And the longest fic on the list: Klavier/Apollo with past Klavier/Daryan, AA4 college AU retelling. Okay, so, listen. I don't usually read college AUs. I don't usually like college AUs. But this is the one college AU that not only worked for me, it worked for me well enough to convince me to give Klapollo another chance after reading some fic I Did Not Like. And the Daryan characterization in this is fantastic - I'm always down for fic that lets Daryan and Apollo begrudgingly work together. I'm not saying I'm headcanoning an eventual threesome way in the future, but...the fic doesn't rule it out. Linking to the full series because the prequel and tie-in are also great.

RIP

Snowflake Challenge: A mug of coffee or hot chocolate with a snowflake shaped gingerbread cookie perched on the rim sits nestled amidst a softly bunched blanket. A few dried orange slices sit next to it.

Challenge #5: In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

Every single year I get to the wishlist challenge and go "but that's HARD, why can't people just read my mind and know what I want". If nothing else, I am very consistent! :D But I went and filled some wishes, so I guess it's time for me to make my own list.

1) The Predictable Writer Request: comments and/or kudos on any of my fic would make my day. I write for Transformers and Ace Attorney mostly, but there's a few smaller fandoms in there (if you like Redwall, I've got Redwall!).

2) Klavier/Daryan, Klavier/Daryan/Apollo, or Ema/Franziska icons (both from Ace Attorney). I lack the photo editing skills to do more than crop existing images to the right size, and there's very little promo art featuring those characters together (the woes of rarepair shipping, LOL).

3) The real long shot: transformative works based on any of my fics, whether that's art, moodboards, covers, whatever. Especially for Sonata in F You, which is my favorite thing I've ever written.

Challenge #4: Rec The Contents Of Your Last Page. Any website that you like, be it fanfiction, art, social media, or something a bit more eccentric!

Have you ever wished you could listen to the exact sounds of the scene you're trying to write? Add some appropriately themed ambiance to your D&D game or art project? Or just find some soothing rain noise or birdsong to listen to while you work, no, not that birdsong, a different bird, why doesn't this ONE BIRD exist on Youtube -

Anyway, try MyNoise! It's a collection of different soundscapes, from basic rain-and-thunder noises to settings like a medieval library, medieval village, or creepy dungeon. It's pretty much always open somewhere in my tab collection; I use it for writing, relaxing, blocking out annoying equipment noises at work, and when I feel like listening to something but not music per se.

No, I didn't wait until I could guarantee I had something cool in my tabs before I did this prompt, why do you ask?
