. My apologies for the deleted comment. I thought I checked all the links before I posted, but when I did a post-check, one went to a story I've never even seen, in a fandom I don't read! *mutters darkly about computers out to get us* So weird. I copy/paste the URLs directly from the story I'm recc'ing; how could that happen? *shrugs helplessly*
So, to repeat what I said earlier --
Which ones, which ones? I saved a lot of recs over our holiday hiatus; I don't want to overload the system in one post. Besides, then I wouldn't have anything for the next weeks. But is this one "better" or "more worthy"? Will that one wait for another post? (Well, of course it will, but should it go to the head of the line?) Decisions, decisions...
I've discovered one big problem (ha!) to making these recs -- when I review the stories, I tend to get sucked in again; oh, the pain! <g> It takes a long time to put these together. <snicker>
Story: Taking the Cake By:miasnape Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Rating: Gen Warnings: Choose not to use None, except delightful silliness Pairing(s): John/Rodney Status: Completed Length: 3,100 words
Author Summary: Written for the Stargate Atlantis Urban Legend Slash Challenge 2nd Edition, Legend: 118 Cake inscriptions gone wrong.
Other: I chuckled from first paragraph to the last in this non-SG meet-cute between John and Rodney; so much fun.
Story: To Be Human By:magicianparrish Fandom: The Old Guard Rating: Teen Warnings: None apply Pairing(s): Joe/Nicky (background) Status: Complete Length: 7,100 words
Author Summary: Andy had left her alone with the three men, and tasked Nile to just observe and “see how it’s done”. Though she had smirked when she left those directions which sent some alarms in Nile’s head. . . . Some slice of life with Nile learning that even old immortals are still human too.
Other: Nile's practicality during the guys' antics made a great contrast; it's a fun look at TOG 'day-in-the-life'.
Story: No Such Thing As Coincidence By:musegaarid Fandom: due South Rating: Teen Warnings: None apply Pairing(s): Fraser/Ray K Status: Complete Length: 3,200 words
Author Summary: While working with Vecchio, a lonely Fraser puts a personal ad in the Chicago Tribune. Kowalski answers.
Other: Engaging letters between Fraser and Ray K, with pitch-perfect voices and a delightful non-twist at the end.
Story: Something Good By:AidaRonan Fandom: The Old Guard Rating: Explicit Warnings: None apply Pairing(s): Andy/Nile Status: Complete Length: 5,300 words
Author Summary: It's a whim that leads Nile into a life of learning to make baklava. Just a whim. Not the way Andy's eyes flutter when she takes a bite, not the way she licks the honeyed syrup from her lips. Certainly not the way she looks at Nile.
Other: Sweet and tender and hot. I love the way an impulse to make authentic baklava, and the way Nile has to work around the snags she encounters, mirrors the gentle movement from friendship to attraction to love between Andy and Nile.
Story: Our Toil Shall Strive to Mend By:Marivan Fandom: The Old Guard Rating: Teen Warnings: None apply Pairing(s): None Status: Complete Length: 9,000 words
Author Summary: Squeezing the phone between his ear and one shoulder, he lifted the fussy baby from her bassinet up against his other. She let loose another little whine, this one certainly audible on the other end of the line.
“Booker,” said Nile slowly, “is that a cat in the background?”
OR: Booker, exiled, drunk and alone, takes in an abandoned baby. He doesn’t tell anybody. He definitely doesn’t fall a little bit in love.
Other: And he definitely doesn’t turn his life around to become a good father, or use that as a springboard for dealing with the rest of his exile. Touching and sweet, and a believable scenario.
Author Summary: In which Nile misses the way Christmas used to be, Booker makes an emergency candy run, and the team pulls off a surprise gingerbread house competition for the history books.
Other: Just a feel-good story where the team helps Nile enjoy Christmas by instituting a gingerbread-house-making competition.
Ohhh some excellent recs there! I've bookmarked the one about baklava and nile and the boys. The one with Booker and the baby was just perfect, i think they really nailed his character there. Thank you :)
